Teenage composer Elisa Kain Johnson shares a composition inspired by loss, on FTT, Sun 7/14 @ 5pm

Singer-songwriter, pianist and composer Elisa Kain Johnson hails from Seattle, Washington. Elisa’s music, which often explores elements of social justice and identity, has been performed by several student and professional performers, including members of the Seattle Symphony, and members of the International Contemporary Ensemble. In 2021, she was selected as one of six national fellows by the New York City based Luna Composition Lab run by Missy Mazzoli and Ellen Reid.

7/14 This week we meet pianist Alex Chen who plays music by Ravel; violinist Qing Ng plays a Caprice by Paganini; violinist Ayaan Ahmad plays Beethoven; composer Elisa Kain Johnson shares “Lost Without You” inspired by the loss of a loved one, and saxophonist Harry Jo plays Coltrane.

7/21 Pianist Xinran Shi shares a tip she got from superstar Lan Lang, just before she performs a prelude by Rachmaninoff; cellist Sara Flexer plays the first work Brahms wrote for a solo instrument; violinist Neal Eisfeldt plays a stunning Wieniawski Polonaise; baritone Raghav Ramgopal who has been drawn to community activism since childhood, sings Ideale Melodia by Francesco Paolo Tosti, and guitarist Jack Davisson plays an arrangement of Dizzy Gillespie’s Night in Tunisia.

7/28 This week we feature young musicians from the Colburn School in LA, including trumpeter Erre Maqueos playing a Sonata by Kennan; cellist Eiline Tai plays Beethoven; pianist Keyden Kelly plays a Capriccioso by Mendelssohn; violinist Yejoon Kwon plays a Tarantella by Wieniawski, and the Olive Trio plays a Boogie Woogie by David Baker.
