Award-winning Canadian pianist Luke Welch was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and grew up nearby in Mississauga. He graduated from Western University in Canada with Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, and completed additional graduate studies in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
He has performed extensively on the international stage including appearances in Canada, United States of America, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and New Zealand.
He has received national and international awards and grants based in both North America and Europe, and in addition to his performance commitments and private teaching, he has been working with a number of national and international academies and arts institutions.
He was named the 2018 recipient of the Harry Jerome Arts Award – distinguished with national recognition by the Black Business and Professional Association. Welch released his third album, entitled The Return: Beethoven and Schumann, in 2019 and his performances are broadcast regularly on WQXR-FM in New York, KING-FM in Seattle, and Radio Classique in Montreal. Also highly sought after as a pedagogue, Welch has taught in both Canada and Europe. He is currently based in Toronto.
