The role of woodwinds in Latin American music, Fiesta 7/20 @ 10pm
7/6 Guitar Music from Brazil and Cuba Brazil and Cuba are two of the powerhouses of Latin American music, in part due to the strong African roots of their music. Fiesta presents a selection of guitar music highlighting these African roots from both countries.
7/13 Two to Tango Latin American duets for a variety of instrumental combinations including flute and piano, violin and piano, and oboe and guitar. We will hear works by Samuel Zyman, Radamés Gnattali, and Astor Piazzolla.
7/20 Woodwinds of Latin America An important part of any orchestra, the woodwinds section is heavily featured in Latin American music. Host Elbio Barilari shares some of his favorite woodwind music in chamber, solo, and orchestral settings. Works by Paquito D’Rivera, Eduardo Angulo, and Jorge Montilla.
7/27 An Ideal Imaginary Concert Think that you are attending a symphonic concert in which instead of hearing one of the so-called “standard concert repertoire,” the orchestra starts with a colorful Latino overture, continues with a fantastic Latino concerto and tops the evening with a full-scale Latino symphony.
