4/4 Mexican Composer Gutiérrez Heras Born in Tehuacan, Mexico in 1927, Joaquín Gutiérrez Heras studied with some of the great composers of his time such as Blas Galindo and Rodolfo Halffter in Mexico and Olivier Messiaen and Georges Dandelot in France. We will share his monumental work 8 Pieces, Op. 1, featuring cellist Carlos Prieto.

4/11 Medieval and Renaissance Spanish Music Fiesta features a treasure of Spanish music from the 12th to the 18th century including the mysterious “Codex Calixtinus”.

4/18 New Tango Music Since the 1920’s classical composers from Argentina and Uruguay drew inspiration from tango music, an urban genre developed in the twin cities across Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires, and Montevideo. On this Fiesta, we will hear tango-inspired pieces by four Argentine living composers.

4/25 A Mexican Concerto Fiesta presents a full concert of Mexican music by composers from three different generations. We’ll hear Candelario Huízar’s Imágenes, Carlos Chávez’s Toccata for Percussion, and Eduardo Angulo’s Concerto for Harp and Strings.
