Spanish Folklore Meets Greek Mythology on The Spanish Hour, February 2020

La Zarzuela Barroca (2/17) featured in this program combine elements of Greek mythology and Spanish folklore. This program includes selections of Zarzuelas from the 18th century, as well as chamber works by modern Spanish composers (2/3). 

2/3        Modern Masters - Chamber works by Spanish composers of the 20th and 21rst centuries: Turina, Evangelista, and Greco.

2/10      20th-Century Mexican Masters - Works by the Holy trinity of 20th-century Mexican composers: Manuel Ponce, Silvestre Revueltas, and Carlos Chávez.

2/17      La Zarzuela Barroca - Not to be confused with the popular operettas and lyric operas popular in Spain from the 1850s through the mid-20th century, the zarzuelas on this program date from the 18th century, combining Spanish folklore with Greek mythology.

2/24      Spanish Romances for Violin - An array of some of the great Spanish works written for violin in the second half of the nineteenth century, featuring works by Sarasate, Monasterio, and Fernández Arbós.
