Declared a national monument in 1970, the house where distinguished composer and jurist Alejandro García Caturla was born is located in the historical center of the village of San Juan de los Remedios. Caturla is considered the most universal composer of the Cuban avant-garde music in the first half of the 20th century. We'll hear his story and his music on Thursday, Sept 23 at 10pm.

We’ll explore some of the great orchestral music of Latin America including: Garcia Caturla (Cuba), Arturo Marquez (Mexico), Miguel Del Aguila (Uruguay?US) and Conlon Nancarrow (US?Mexico).

9/16      New Compositions by Leo Brouwer Now in his 80s, Cuban composer Leo Brouwer continues his work as one of the top living composers. Fiesta presents some of his latest works including The Book of Signs and his Bandurria Sonata.

9/23      Alejandro Garcia Caturla: The Best Kept Secret in Latin American Music During his short life Alejandro García Caturla (1906?1940), a musician and a judge, built an amazing and forward-looking musical catalog combining the Afro?Cuban traditions and European classical techniques. Largely unknown outside Cuba until recent times, new recordings have sparked the interest for the music of this “secret” genius.

9/30      Island Hopping Host Elbio Barilari takes you on a musical trip to the many islands in Latin America and Spain.  Featuring some of his favorite composers, we will visit the Canary Islands, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Guadeloupe, and Grenada.
