On Apr 27th at 8pm, we'll explore Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, flutist Lorna McGhee plays the premiere of “Wing of the Dream” by Kaija Saariaho.

Scriabin referred to The Poem of Ecstasy as his "fourth symphony," although it has few elements of a symphony. Scriabin wrote a poem over 300 lines long to accompany the music, but they are not meant to be performed together.

Although Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 has been attributed to one Johann Baptist Cramer, a pianist, composer and publisher based in London who was friendly with Beethoven and probably knew the value of good marketing, the word ‘Emperor’ carries resonances that were so far from the composer’s ideals that its attachment to arguably his finest concerto is almost laughable. We'll hear it on Jan 26th at 8pm.
