Meet Uruguayan composer Luis Pasquet on Fiesta, 10/3 @ 10pm

10/3 The Legendary Luis Pasquet Pianist, arranger, orchestra conductor and band leader, a classical composer as well as a tango and jazz musician. Luis Pasquet was born in Uruguay in 1917 and lived for 95 years spent over several continents and with different types of music. Fiesta is proud to celebrate the life and music of this musical knight.

10/10 Classical Music from Puerto Rico Puerto Rico has a strong popular music scene from different regions of the island. It also has a long and intense classical music history that is enhanced by this regional music. As a political exile, the great Spanish cellist Pablo Casals lived and taught there and created an important international festival. In this program, Fiesta presents four Puerto Rican composers.

10/17 Cuarteto Latinoamericano Plays Mexican Romantic Music One of the most prestigious string quartets in the world, the Cuarteto Latinoamericano has recorded the standard repertoire as well as a number of albums dedicated to Latin American music. With a particular interest in the music of Mexico, their home country. On this program, Fiesta presents the Cuarteto Latinoamericano performing two amazing and intensely romantic scores by Mexican composers Alfredo Carrasco and Alfonso de Elías.

10/24 Baroque Music from the Spanish & Portuguese Empires Brazil, Mexico, and Cuba were three “jewels” in the colonial empire of the Spanish and Portuguese crowns. European musicians were imported to teach music and composed while living in the colonies. This bred a new generation of American composers writing music for religious services and the courts of the viceroys and governors. Fiesta presents a selection of music from the Spanish and Portuguese empires.

10/31 Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)  Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, has inspired music in the Latin American culture throughout history. Often confused with Halloween in America, the Day of the Dead is about honoring and paying tribute to one’s ancestors. On this episode of Fiesta, we will explore music that celebrates the many facets of this holiday.
