Chamber music by Spanish composer Padre Antonio Soler on Fiesta, Thu 11/7 @ 10pm

It was Scarlatti who spurred Soler to write his ebullient works for harpsichord, which include over 100 sonatas and a frequently performed Fandango.

11/7 Padre Antonio Soler Antonio Soler was a very prominent Spanish composer that linked the late Baroque and early Classical periods together. Fiesta will feature his chamber music as well as music for harpsichord that has been newly recorded.

11/14 Music from Mexico and Argentina In this program, Fiesta presents a selection of three pieces from Mexican living composers Eduardo Angulo, Leonardo Coral, and Arturo Rodriguez. We will also hear a rarely heard oboe concerto by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla.

11/21 Three Fantasies Since the Renaissance, many composers have use the word “fantasy” as a title for pieces outside of the traditional musical forms. Fiesta presents three very different fantasies by Spanish composers Fernando Sor and Joaquín Rodrigo and Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos.

11/28 Romantic Chamber Music from Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico There is an enormous treasure trove of Latin American romantic and post-romantic music composed during the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. Fiesta presents a selection of delightful chamber pieces by Brazilian composer Glauco Velázquez, Mexican composer Gustavo Campa, and Argentine composer Constantino Gaito.
