2/3 Música de cámara: Argentina, Mexico and Spain This edition features chamber Music from Spain, Argentina, and Mexico from the early and mid-20th century. We’ll hear a piano quartet by Spain’s Joaquín Turina, Argentinian composer Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires arranged for piano trio, and Mexican composer Carlos Chávez’s first string quartet. Artists include Trio Solisti, Southwest Chamber Music, and the Damocles Trio.

We’ll hear Sephardic romances of the Jews of mediaeval Spain, Spanish love songs by Catalan Enrique Granados, and El Amor Brujo, Manuel de Falla’s gitanería of ghostly love.

2/17 Spanish Piano Works (February 15-21)

Enjoy lesser-known Spanish composers Federico Longás and Jesús Guridi who take their places alongside Isaac Albéniz on this program of Spanish piano masterpieces. A piano showpiece written for Vladimir Horowitz by the Barcelona-born Federico Longás, a suite based on folk music from the Basque country by Basque composer Jesús Guridi, and Isaac Albéniz’s Suite española No 1.

2/24 El Sistema Works by Venezuelan composers Inocente Carreño, Aldemaro Romero, and Antonio
Estévez Aponte, with the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra, the best known of the orchestras of “El Sistema;” conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, who will be leaving the LA Philharmonic for the New York Philharmonic in 2026, and Eduardo Mata conducting Venezuela’s professional Simón Bolívar Orchestra and Chorus.
