Many composers were inspired by the beauty of Andalcia, Spain and its people. We hears some of those works on 3/24

3/3 The "Spanish" Julian Bream English guitarist and lutenist Julian Bream devoted much of his creative energy to the Spanish repertory. This week, Julian Bream plays selections from the Spanish repertory joined, at times, by guitarist John Williams and the RCA Victor Orchestra.

3/10 Compositores Porteños: Born in Buenos Aires Argentinean composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, all born in Argentina’s capital city of Buenos Aires: Alberto Williams, Alberto Ginastera, and Jorge Liderman.

3/17 Three Mexican Composers: Chávez, Jiménez Mabarak, and Rolón Contemporary classics of chamber, orchestral, and ballet music by three icons of 20th century Mexican Classical music: José Rolón, Carlos Chávez, and Carlos Jiménez Mabarak.

3/24 Portraits of Andalucía Works for piano and voice and piano by Enrique Granados are performed by Brazilian guitarist Turibio Santos in his own transcriptions and those of Miguel Llobet. Later in the program, Pepe Romero is joined by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos conducting the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Sevilla in Lorenzo Palomo's Nocturnos de Andalucía, commissioned by Mr. Romero.

3/31 Film Music of Silvestre Revueltas The 30-year period beginning in 1933 saw an incredible wealth of films from Mexico. Silvestre Revueltas was one of the composers whose music left an indelible imprint on the sound of Mexican film. No discussion of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema would be complete without talking about composer Silvestre Revueltas. We’ll hear selections from some of his great scores for great films, including his most famous work, “La Noche de los Mayas.”
