Meet 20th & 21st century Mexican composers, Thursdays in October @ 10pm

Here are five Mexican classical composers you should know because of their incredible contributions to the world of music.

10/2      Romantic Music from Brazil and Mexico Beautiful and melodic music from Brazil and Mexico are featured in the program. Included are works by Brazilian composers Alexandre Levy and Alberto Nepomuceno and Mexican composers Melesio Morales and Gustavo Campa.
10/9      Three Living Composers from Argentina: Eduardo Alonso-Crespo, Máximo Diego Pujol & Martín Matalón Fiesta celebrates the music of three Argentine living composers practicing a wide variety of musical styles. We’ll hear a Double Concerto for Oboe and Clarinet, tango chamber music, and a work inspired by the writings of Jorge Luis Borges.
10/16    Heroes and Liberators The stories of South American heroes and liberators are set to music in this special episode of Fiesta. We will hear music inspired by the Mexican hero Emiliano Zapata and the first attempt of Brazilian independence, led by revolutionary Tiradentes. Compositions by Venezuelan super-star Gustavo Dudamel, Spanish composer Leonaro Balada, and Brazilian composer Guerra Peixe.
10/23    Visions of Mexico One of the powerhouses of Latin American music, Mexico is home to some of the great composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. We will share the many different musical visions of Mexico. Starting with the composer of the famous “Huapango”, José Pablo Moncayo, and including recent works by Emilio Toussaint and Hebert Vázquez.
10/30    Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, has inspired music in Latin America culture throughout history. Often confused with Halloween in America, the Day of the Dead is about honoring and paying tribute to one’s ancestors. On this episode of Fiesta, we will explore music that celebrates the many facets of this holiday.
