Fiesta plays "the most famous cellist in history Pau (Pablo) Casals," Thu 11/20 @ 10pm

Casals became interested in the cello after hearing the instrument in a recital he attended at age eleven – he must have had a passionate reaction to the instrument, for soon after, his father built him one.

11/6      Concerti from Argentina and Brazil Two of the largest countries in South America, Argentina and Brazil boast powerful musical traditions. We present an oboe concerto by Argentine living composer Eduardo Alonso-Crespo and a piano concerto by one of the greatest composers of Brazil: Mozart Camargo Guarnieri.
11/13    A Lost Baroque Opera Domenico Zipoli was one of the most remarkable Italian baroque composers. In 1717, he migrated to South America, where he contributed some of the most important music written on this side of the Atlantic. Fiesta presents his “lost” opera, dedicated to Saint Ignacio de Loyola.
11/20    Chamber Music from Spain and Brazil Chamber music of Spain and Latin American has a strong and original character, defined by folkloric and popular music. We’ll hear this synthesis in works by two composers for Catalonia, Spain: Eduard Toldrá and the most famous cellist in history Pau (Pablo) Casals. And two 20th century composers from Brazil: Claudio Santoro and Mozart Camargo Guarnieri.
11/27    Medieval & Renaissance Music from Spain, Portugal & the Americas Fiesta features a treasure of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American music from the 12th to the 18th century including the mysterious “Codex Calixtinus.”
