We’ll hear performances by violinist Maxwell Brown; From the Top alum Yuna Langehennig and her wind ensemble, Heritage Winds; pianist Sophia Shao performing Beethoven; cellist Bhargava Kulkarni plays Chopin; bassoonist Jorge Cruz-Hernandez plays Vivaldi; and clarinetist Noah Stone joins guest Artist Paquito D’Rivera for a special work.
11/16 Let’s Get Together How does ensemble size and instrumentation shape the listening experience? There’s something for everyone this week as we explore performances from soloists to ensembles, large and small. We’ll hear a solo pianist play Rachmaninoff, a bassoon, oboe, and piano trio performing Poulenc, an award-winning high school orchestra play a Shostakovich Symphony, and much more!
11/23 Musicians from Rural America This week we meet five musicians from rural areas around the nation to learn about their lives and musical studies. violinist Samuel Garcia plays music by Joaquín Nin; guitarist Laurel Harned performs California Bluesette by Toots Thielemans; pianist/composer Adam Brachman plays his own Etude; violinist/composer Benjamin Rosenthal plays music by Ernst Bloch; and banjo player Bayla Davis plays Will the Circle Be Unbroken?
11/30 Musical Feast We’re sharing an array of music of varying flavors ranging from a playful performance of Cassadó to a modern piano work inspired by the city of Las Vegas and a fiery piece performed on erhu. We also meet a teen composer and reflect on the healing power of music. Performers include cellist Mira Kardan, pianist Kate Shao, violist Daniel De La Cruz, flutist Soomin Oh, composer/cellist Mary Brook Hartmann, and Erhu player Brian Zhu.
