A collection of discussions between special guests and Music Director and midday host, Julia Figueras.

On Record with Ward Stare and Olga Kern - 11/9 & 11/11/17

Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Ward Stare programmed just two pieces for this week's concerts: Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Beethoven's masterful Piano Concerto No. 5. Classical 91.5 Music Director Julia Figueras welcomed the Music Director and pianist Olga Kern to chat about this evening of fan favorites. But don't be fooled--the Mussorgsky will be performed in an all-new way for our ears:  a compilation of orchestrations by nine different composers. Ward Stare takes us through the work, picture by picture, to tell us who wrote what, and how it will be different. Pianist Olga Kern chimes in to talk about the original solo piano version, as well as why the Beethoven really is the Emperor of piano concertos.

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
