Each season, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra concertmaster Juliana Athayde commands center stage as a soloist. This year, she returns to Mendelssohn's beloved Violin Concerto in e-minor. Also in the evening: Wagner's luscious overture to Lohengrin and Bruckner's Symphony No. 6. Juliana and RPO Music Director Andreas Delfs chatted with Julia Figueras about changing performances over time, Bruckner's beautiful arc of musical thought, why the Wagner was groundbreaking, and how all of these things fit together.

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
