The vocal ensemble Cantus returns to our CD Spotlight with its first holiday release in more than a decade. Into the Light offers a new collection of songs for the season, with its trademark programming of sensitive and diverse selections, spanning five languages with a broad range of tunes, from Joni Mitchell to John Jacob Niles to a Christmas spiritual and a Filipino carol, as well as six new pieces created especially for Cantus. A delicate rendition of Clement Clark Moore’s beloved poem “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” set by Cantus member Chris Foss, will debut in our Holiday Songbook.
In this season of lights, a new collection of holiday music is always welcome, and Cantus gives us one we’ll come back to every year.
