WXXI Classical and Eastman Presents the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, Tuesday, Jan 31 @ 7:30pm - LIVE from Kodak Hall

The Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine recently announced a concert schedule of performances at select cities throughout North America that includes stops in Rochester and Houghton, NY. As one of the best Classical live performers right now, Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine will be appearing live for fans to attend, after more than two years of planning, "before the war was even on anybody's radar," said Maestro Kuchar.

On Tuesday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m., WXXI Classical broadcasts live from Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre, the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine concert, as part of the Eastman Presents series, by Eastman School of Music, of the University of Rochester. Led by Ukrainian American conductor, Maestro Theodore Kuchar and featuring Eastman School of Music’s Professor of Violin, Oleh Krysa as soloist, the program will include pieces by Yevhen Stankovych, Bruch, and Beethoven.

The concert broadcast will be hosted by Fred Child, host of Performance Today, the most-listened-to classical music radio show in America.

Eastman Presents the Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with ROC Maidan and the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union. Additional support for the live broadcast has been provided by Ralph Jozefowicz.

Established on September 27, 1902 in the medieval city of Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine, The Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra's first official concert took place in the Ukrainian National Academic Theater of Drama (as it is now known). The Orchestra is a regular participant in international festivals, including the International Festival of Musical Art “Virtuosos,” the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Contrasts,” the Ukrainian-Polish Festival “Discovering Paderewski” and others. The orchestra tours in many countries around the world, including Poland, Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and China, and this year will present 40 concerts throughout the U.S.

During the past several seasons they have completed highly-acclaimed recordings for major international labels including Naxos and Brilliant Classics, including Orchestral music of Charles Roland Berry(Vol One), and Orchestral music of Thomas de Hartmann (Vol Two).

On Thursday, January 19th, WXXI Classical host and producer Mona Seghatoleslami was guest host for Connections to talk about The Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine. Listen to Mona's interview with Theodore Kuchar and Elena Dilai.

Read more about Kuchar's upbringing, what lead his family to the U.S., and the harrowing experience of leaving Ukraine.
