Dear WXXI Classical Listeners and Supporters of the Arts,
At WXXI, we believe that music, performance, and storytelling are essential to the cultural heartbeat of our region. Whether it's classical broadcasts, live local concerts, artist interviews, or arts education features, we’re proud to be a platform for the voices and creativity that enrich our community.
But that work is now at risk.
The White House has proposed rescinding a portion of federal funding already approved for public media. If enacted, this could have serious implications for stations like ours — including our ability to support and amplify the arts in Rochester and across upstate New York.
This isn’t final. Congress has 40 days to respond, and public media has historically enjoyed broad bipartisan support. But your voice — as a listener, artist, educator, or advocate — is vital right now.
If you’ve ever tuned in to hear the RPO, discovered a new composer through our airwaves, or relied on WXXI to stay connected to Rochester’s creative life, now is the time to speak up. Click here to learn more about how you can help.
Tell your representatives that the arts matter. That public media matters. That WXXI matters.
The music doesn’t stop here — and neither do we.
With appreciation,
Chris Hastings
