6/4: Romantic Music from Argentina and Brazil
The Romantic period marked and explosion of creativity within Latin American music. Romanticism in Latin American lasted well into the 20th century, much longer than in Europe and the US. Fiesta presents compositions by two giants of this time, the Argentine Alberto Williams and the Brazilian Henrique Oswald.
6/11: Chamber Tango
Tango was born around 1880 in Buenos Aires and Montevideo as dance music, but by the 1940ʼs it was introduced to the concert hall. Since then, tango has inspired many composers to write concert music for this globally popular dance. We will feature some of the masters of tango including Astor Piazzolla, Luis Pasquet, and Aníbal Troilo.
6/18: Back to Portugal
Fiesta pays another visit to the amazing past and present of Portuguese music. Host, Elbio Barilari will share the many hidden musical treasures from this often-overlooked musical country. Works by Jolly Braga Santos, Fernando Lopes-Graça, and Luís de Freitas Branco.
6/25: A Latin American Concert
Fiesta invites you to enjoy another imaginary concert starting with a gorgeous Spanish overture by Evaristo Fernández Blanco, followed by a delightful Brazilian guitar concerto by Radamés Gnattalli and a magnificent Mexican symphonic suite by Silvestre Revueltas.
