The longtime leader of The Hochstein School will be retiring in June 2022.
That announcement was made recently by Peggy Quackenbush, who has been President & Executive Director of the music and dance school since 1992. She has been on the faculty since 1979.

Quackenbush said that she is, “Deeply honored and grateful to have worked with our amazing faculty, staff, and Board for all these years – truly a shared labor of love. My gratitude also goes out to all of our wonderful students, families, and donors who make Hochstein so special.”

Officials say that under Quackenbush’s leadership, the school’s programs in music, dance, and expressive arts therapies have grown substantially and the Hochstein Performance Hall has become “Rochester’s premiere mid-sized concert hall.”
Hochstein Board Chair Jennifer Stenzel said that, “In spite of the challenges the last 18 months has brought, Peggy has ensured that the School is in a very strong position to welcome its next leader.”
The search for a new leader will be discussed in the coming weeks, and the school released a statement saying that there will be opportunities for Hochstein stakeholders to have input into the decision-making process.
Hochstein Advisory Director Eric Logan, Senior IT Project Manager for the City of Rochester, will chair the Search Committee.
WXXI Classical broadcasts the lunchtime concert series Live from Hochstein on Wednesdays in the fall and spring. The next season of Live from Hochstein starts October 18, with a performance by the RPO.
