Those amazing Kanneh-Masons have done it again with another stellar release—this time with two of the seven siblings. Pianist Isata and cellist Sheku combined forces for Muse, a collection of songs and sonatas by Barber and Rachmaninov. The Barber, written in his younger days, is a hidden masterwork that shines in the hands of the Kanneh-Masons and the Rachmaninov, a not-so-hidden masterwork, is performed with a grace and maturity well beyond their years. And the songs? Simply gorgeous. Rob Cowan from Grammophon said Sheku’s performance in Barber’s “There’s nae lark” is “some of the loveliest cello-playing I’ve heard in decades.” And it is.
