Why are you saying WXXO? We're still WXXI Classical 91.5!

Faithful listeners having been noticing some changes and asking for clarification. Please allow me to explain.

WXXI has recently purchased an FM frequency to carry our NPR News/Talk programming that is currently on AM 1370. The new FM frequency will allow WXXI News programming to better serve more people, especially during the fall and winter months when the FCC required pattern change for AM frequencies cuts out a large portion of our broadcast region, particularly to the east and west of Rochester.

Since WXXI now has two FM frequencies we needed two different sets of call letters. So, as of May 10, 2023, WXXI Classical changed its call letters to WXXO-FM 91.5. This change ONLY affects our LEGAL ID status - and our BRAND will remain WXXI Classical or Classical 91.5, and our dial position remains FM 91.5.

I hope that explains things clearly. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask. Email classical@wxxi.org for more information.
