When people think of public radio, many immediately associate it with the news. But here at WXXI, public media is also about music.
Whether you start your day with WXXI Classical, discover new sounds on The Route, or turn to us for carefully curated programming that brings music to life, your listening experience is made possible, in part, by federal funding.
Most people don’t realize that stations like WXXI Classical and The Route receive crucial support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — the same federal funding that helps bring NPR news to the airwaves. This funding ensures that we can provide non-commercial, locally-hosted music programming that commercial stations don’t offer — from symphonies and opera, to folk, blues, indie rock, and beyond.
Right now, public media funding is at risk in Washington. If these federal funds are eliminated, it won’t just impact news coverage — the local connection to the arts you hear on WXXI’s music services will be in jeopardy. Not only does music provide health and wellness benefits, it helps connect communities.
That’s why we need you to speak up. If the music on WXXI Classical, The Route, and public media matter to you, act now by visiting:

Your voice makes a difference. Public media music stations like ours are more than just entertainment — they are a vital part of the cultural landscape, supporting artists, preserving music history, and creating a space for discovery. But we can’t do it without your help.
Thank you for being a part of WXXI’s music community. Your advocacy and support will help keep the music playing.
With appreciation,
