Musicians of Rochester: Kearstin Piper Brown

American soprano Kearstin Piper Brown has earned acclaim for her radiant voice and dynamic stage presence across opera houses and concert halls worldwide. This season, she returns to Opera in Williamsburg as Musetta in La Bohème, makes her Santa Fe Opera debut in the world premiere of This Little Light of Mine, and will soon step onto the stage of Carnegie Hall with the Cecilia Chorus of New York. She will also debut with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah.

Rochester audiences know Kearstin well. She performed at the reopening of Hochstein Performance Hall, recently made her Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra debut, and will soon return for a special recital at Third Presbyterian Church. A passionate supporter of the Rochester music community, she serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Gateways Music Festival in association with the Eastman School of Music and also shares her love of classical music as a fill-in host for WXXI Classical.

Beyond Rochester, Ms. Brown has performed with the Dallas Symphony, New Orleans Opera, Syracuse Opera, and Finger Lakes Opera, and has sung leading roles internationally in productions of Porgy and Bess, The Magic Flute, Orfeo ed Euridice, and It's a Wonderful Life. Her artistry has been recognized by major competitions, including prizes from the Montserrat Caballé International Competition, the William Matheus Sullivan Foundation, and the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation.

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Kearstin is a proud graduate of Spelman College and Northwestern University. Whether performing new operas, beloved classics, or spirituals, she brings a powerful connection to every stage — and continues to make Rochester a vital part of her musical journey.
