A collection of discussions between special guests and Music Director and midday host, Julia Figueras.

On Record with Jennifer Higdon, Yolanda Kondonassis, and Ward Stare - 9/20 & 9/22/18

Kondonassis: Mark Bettrell/Higdon: jenniferhigdon.com

They're back! Your Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is about to record the Jennifer Higdon harp concerto with soloist Yolanda Kondonassis that they all premiered in May. It's part of an all-American show that includes works by Patrick Harlin, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, and Leonard Bernstein. So before the microphones are turned on and the crowds file in to hear the Return of the Concerto, all parties stopped in to chat with Julia Figueras about the changes that have been made, the importance of recording a new piece, and the proper pronunciation of "Rodeo."

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
