A collection of discussions between special guests and Music Director and midday host, Julia Figueras.

On Record with Ward Stare and Jon Nakamatsu

Ward Stare: Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra/Jon Nakamatsu: jonnakamatsu.com

On one of the coldest days of the year, pianist Jon Nakamatsu and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Music Director Ward Stare stopped by our studios to chat with WXXI-FM Music Director Julia Figueras about a show that promises to be hot, with some moody Rachmaninov, bouncy Beethoven, and the always challenging Rite of Spring by Stravinsky. Along the way, they discussed Beethoven's keyboard abilities and why Stravinsky's masterpiece is, in the end, about life and renewal.

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
