Classical 91.5 Celebrates Black History Month, On-Air and Online

NAfME

Each February, Classical 91.5 recognizes Black History Month by recognizing the musical contributions of people of African descent.  We do this on air by presenting music by black composers, conductors and performers.  This year we are also launching our newest web pages, Classical Musicians of African Descent, developed in cooperation with the Gateways Music Festival at the Eastman School of Music (part of the University of Rochester), to provide more information on many of these artists.

Throughout history people of African descent have been involved in and made significant contributions to classical music.  Through these pages, we wish to introduce you to some of these individuals, as well as many who are actively making careers in music today. You'll also be provided with and links to assist you in finding additional information about each.

These web pages are by no means complete, but it is a start toward providing a resource to learn more about these outstanding classical musicians.  Please visit these pages often to see how they are growing and changing for your information and research.  If there are musicians that should be included, we hope you will write to us at classical@wxxi.org.
