In October 2018, cellist Beiliang Zhu, who is a rising star in the world of early music and currently pursuing a D.M.A. at the Eastman School of Music, joined the Publick Music to pursue perfection in an exploration of great works featuring the Baroque cello.
This suite is by Jean-Baptiste Breval, one of the great cellists of his age, who left beind a great body of work, including symphonies, an opera, and a whole lot of music for, of course, the cello. Beiliang Zhu and Christopher Haritatos supply the cellos, along with Baroque violinist Boel Gidholm for this bright and breezy work. This is the first of three pieces from this concert that will be featured in Performance Rochester.
