WXXI Classical's annual celebration of local performing groups. While the novel coronavirus has resulted in the cancellation of concerts and seasons, we brought some of the area's best live musical moments to you. This focus on local music has continued through the show Performance Upstate and the continued inclusion of live, local performances as part WXXI's daily programming.

Mon 4/15, 6:00p First Muse presents Serenade for Cello and Piano by Marek Harris

Diane Walsh: Liz Linder

The First Muse series has a huge presence in this year's Performance Rochester, and with good reason: founder and artistic director Melissa Matson decided to end the series with one last concert in November, 2018. We're giving this mainstay of Rochester chamber music series a big farewell with six appearances throughout the month.

First Muse appearance number four takes us back to the May, 2018 concert with pianist Diane Walsh and a world premiere by Marek Harris, a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. Mr. Harris' music has been described as beautiful, uncompromising, and original--all attributes you will find in this Serenade for Cello and Piano. Former Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Cellist Stefan Reuss and joins Diane Walsh.

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
