Mastering one instrument is hard. Mastering a second is harder still. Playing both in concert? Formidable. There are lots of wows when it comes to Beiliang Zhu, who is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical arts in cello and a Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology at the Eastman School of Music. Not only is she a fierce player on both the cello and the viola da gamba, but she displayed her talents on both instruments in one concert for the March, 2018 "Bach & Bach" concert by Pegasus Early Music. This is the second of those perfomances during Performance Rochester, as Beiliang show us her cello chops.
Pegasus Early Music is making three appearances this month. This is the third appearance, and the second with Beiliang Zhu, although you can also hear her artistry with the Publick Musick. Here, she is joined by Leon Schelhase at the harpsichord for a Sonata in G major by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Listen to the third movement (Andante) of the Sonata.
