WXXI Classical's annual celebration of local performing groups. While the novel coronavirus has resulted in the cancellation of concerts and seasons, we brought some of the area's best live musical moments to you. This focus on local music has continued through the show Performance Upstate and the continued inclusion of live, local performances as part WXXI's daily programming.

Thu 4/11, 2:00p First Muse presents Dvorak's Piano Trio in f minor, op 65

Diane Walsh: J. Henry Fair

The First Muse series has a huge presence in this year's Performance Rochester, and with good reason: founder and artistic director Melissa Matson decided to end the series with one last concert in November, 2018. We're giving this mainstay of Rochester chamber music series a big farewell with six appearances throughout the month.

For the third First Muse appearance, we return to the May, 2018 concert with pianist Diane Walsh. Former Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Cellist Stefan Reuss and violinist David Brickman join her in a performance of Dvorak's PianoTrio No 3, one of his most Brahmsian creations, as well one of his crowning achievements in chamber music.

Listen to the second movement.

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
