In October 2018, cellist Beiliang Zhu, who is a rising star in the world of early music and currently pursuing a D.M.A. at the Eastman School of Music, joined the Publick Music to pursue perfection in an exploration of great works featuring the Baroque cello.
Domenico Gabrielli, one of the earliest cello virtuosi, is the composer of this sonata. Although Gabrielli also wrote operas as well as instrumental works, he was known throughout Europe for his mastery of the cello. Beiliang Zhu and Christopher Haritatos masterfully supply the cellos; Naomi Gregory supplies the graceful harpsichord. This is the third of three pieces from this concert that will be featured in Performance Rochester.
