The MostArts Festival debuts this year on Performance Rochester! The weeklong celebration of the arts on the beautiful campus of Alfred University encompasses many facets of the fine arts, with classes and demonstrations in glass-blowing, painting, creative writing...even flower arranging. It all begins with a gala concert, and finishes with a competition for young pianists from around the world. Maestro Yuval Zaliouk leads the MostArts Festival Orchestra, which is made up from of an international roster of musicians.
Illinois native Derek Chung was the competition winner in 2016. As part of his prize, he returned to the festival to perform Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in the opening concert on July 9, 2017. Derek, currently a freshman at Stanford University, has won multiple competitions, appeared on NPR's From the Top, and is the cofounder of 88Keys to Cure, a non-profit organization that promotes classical music for the benefit of various causes. This is his grand performance from that gala evening.
