After 28 years of producing Music of the 21st Century on Classical 91.5 (Sundays at 11pm), host Chris Hickey has decided to hang up his headphones and drop his mic.
Chris Hickey studied piano beginning age 8 and flute at age 12. Distracted by the Beatles, he took up guitar at 15. He played pop music, rock, soul, jazz, country and classical. Chris earned a BA in Music from Nazareth College, as its first Classical Guitar Major. His radio career began at WRUR, then WGMC, and he's been at WXXI since 1991. "It's time," he said, when he announced his departure to Program Director Ruth Phinney.
In May, Classical 91.5 will be airing some encores of this past year, and the final show will air on May 26th.
We wish you well Chris.
