WXXI Classical's annual celebration of local performing groups. While the novel coronavirus has resulted in the cancellation of concerts and seasons, we brought some of the area's best live musical moments to you. This focus on local music has continued through the show Performance Upstate and the continued inclusion of live, local performances as part WXXI's daily programming.

Wed 4/15, 6:00p Madrigalia sings a suite of songs

madrigalia.org

Madrigalia is well known to Classical 91.5 listeners. They've appeared on Backstage Pass, and the group's "A Cup of Good Cheer" has been a happy tradition for years on Live from Hochstein. In fact, Madrigalia has been serenading Rochester and beyond for over four decades with no sign of slowing down.

Currently under the skilled leadership of composer Cary Ratcliff, Madrigalia is composed of highly skilled vocalists from the Rochester area.  Known for its beauty of sound and artistic excellence, the ensemble presents unique and challenging programs of chamber choral music built around intriguing themes. The music draws from all time and places, with a large dollop drawn from our time, and embracing cultures throughout the world.

This is the first of two appearances for Madrigalia on Performance Rochester, with 2 songs from the December, 2019 holiday concert and one from the June, 2019 concert, "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," which you'll hear more from on, of course, April 23.

A Strong Memorial baby and Greece Arcadia grad, Julia Figueras was the Music Director and mid-day host for WXXI Classical until June 30, 2023 when she retired after more than 26 years of service. She also hosted the award-winning monthly interview/performance show, Backstage Pass.
