WXXI Classical's annual celebration of local performing groups. While the novel coronavirus has resulted in the cancellation of concerts and seasons, we brought some of the area's best live musical moments to you. This focus on local music has continued through the show Performance Upstate and the continued inclusion of live, local performances as part WXXI's daily programming.

Wed 4/26 @ 11:00a The Amenda Quartet presents Beethoven's String Quartet

Beethoven: String Quartet in F Major, Op 135

The Amenda Quartet consists of Patricia Sunwoo and David Brickman, violins; Melissa Matson, viola; Mimi Hwang, cello.

This concert, First Muse: It Must Be! was recorded at the First Unitarian Church in Rochester on May 15, 2016.

The string quartet (two violins, one viola, and one cello) is a perfect combination of instruments that has inspired nearly every great composer since Haydn to reach their highest achievements.  And so it was with Ludwig van Beethoven who wrote sixteen string quartets which span his lifetime. Within them one finds expressed the spectrum of human experience: joy and anger, jocularity and gravity, despair and exaltation.

The Amenda Quartet took on PROJECT LUDWIG: THE COMPLETE BEETHOVEN STRING QUARTETS, performing all of Beethoven's string quartets in 2016.
