This week, it’s a double debut for your Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. François López-Ferrer is stepping in as guest conductor and in a last-minute substitution, pianist Xiayin Wang will solo in George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F. The concerto is just one piece in a program filled with, as Gershwin once said, “an orgy of rhythm,” featuring two by Gershwin, plus an Andean-inspired suite by Gabriela Lena Frank, and four dances from Alberto Ginastera’s boisterous ballet Estancia. François and Xiayin came by our studio to talk to Julia Figueras about getting into the groove.
