Although no longer in residency, the Chiara String Quartet has, since 2000, had a great impact on culture and education in Nebraska.

7/4 Guitar Classics of Spain, Argentina, and Puerto Rico Andrés Segovia, Victor Villadangos, and Carlos Barbosa-Lima perform contemporary guitar classics from Argentina’s Quique Sinesi, Spain’s Joaquín Rodrigo, and Puerto Rico’s Ernesto Cordero.

7/11 Guitar Transcriptions of Piano and Orchestra Classics A program of well-known Spanish keyboard and orchestral treasures transcribed for guitar and heard anew. Guitarist Jorge Caballero and the Brazilian Guitar Quartet in transcriptions of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Iberian-inspired orchestral work Capriccio Espagnole,, Isaac Albéniz’s piano suite Chants d'Espagne, and more.

7/18 The Genius of Isaac Albéniz Isaac Albéniz is best known for his works for the piano, most notably, Iberia. But he also wrote songs, chamber works, and a number of zarzuelas and operas, and dreamed of creating a Spanish national opera. We'll hear selections from Pepita Jiménez, Iberia, and Cantos de España, as well as the rarely heard Piano Sonata No. 5.

7/25 Paseo Latinoamericano Guitarists Lily Afshar and Manuel Barrueco, flutist Marco Granados, the Chiara Quartet, and Quintet of the Americas take us on a Latin-American Walkabout, exploring traditional music and contemporary compositions inspired by the melodically and rhythmically rich music of Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Peru, and Venezuela.
