Meet legally blind violinist Julia LaGrand on From the Top, 3/19 at 5pm

The 3/19 episode of From the Top features material recorded all across the country with young musicians in their homes. Among them, a 16-year-old violinist who, as a blind musician advocates for the greater inclusion of the blind community in the performing arts. We'll hear her perform Obsession by Eugène Ysaÿe.

3/5 The Guo sisters from Hawaii kick off the program with the virtuosic music of Sarasate. We also enjoy a performance of Villa-Lobos by cellist Daniel Dorsey, a stunning harp-piano duo with Shaylen Joos, and the world premiere of composer Carolina Bragg’s work for string quartet!

3/19 Trumpeter Benjamin D’Haiti performs the music of Haydn; cellist Hayden Idson performs a classic showpiece by Karl Davidov; violinist Julia LaGrand performs Obsession by Eugène Ysaÿe; and the piano duo of Naomi Kobayashi and Sophie Nguyen from Hawaii perform a Tango by Barber.

3/26 Flutist Sasha Hitachi-Kizziah performs Carmen Fantasie; marimba player Glenn Choe, who’s a star member of one of the strongest marching bands in Texas plays a Bach violin sonata arranged for marimba; pianist Victor Shlyakhtenko performs Chopin; and we travel to one of Boston’s great churches to hear a organist Marshall Joos perform the music of J.S. Bach.
