Manuel Ponce (1882-1948), who revolutionized Mexican music by fusing indigenous native and Spanish sounds with European classical forms. We'll hear music by Ponce and more on Fiesta, 8/31 @ 10pm.

8/3 Latin American Sonatas Fiesta presents sonatas for the viola, the cello and the clarinet by Brazilian composer Brenno Blauth and Argentine composers Constantino Gaito and Carlos Guastavino.

8/10 Latin American Chamber Gems From the treasure trove of Latin American chamber music, Fiesta’s host Elbio Barilari will present music from Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. With works by Astor Piazzolla, Franciso Mignone, and Pablo Chin.

8/17 Agustin Barrios Revisited Together with Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel Ponce and Leo Brouwer, Paraguayan composer Agustin Barrios is one of the most important 20th century guitar composers. Fiesta presents historical recordings by Barrios himself as well as recordings by two of the top contemporary guitarists, Australian John Williams and Uruguayan Eduardo Fernandez.

8/24 Spanish Music and Visual Arts Spanish composers seem to have a strong predilection for the visual arts. This is not surprising for a country that gave us Diego Velázquez, Goya, and Picasso among many other first-rate artists. Fiesta explores the connections between Spanish music and visual art. Works by Enrique Granados, Andrés Gaos , and Francisco Coll .

8/31 Mexican Music for the Piano As the largest Spanish speaking country in the world, Mexico is also a powerhouse of classical music, with several first-rate composers and performers. Fiesta presents a selection of luxurious Mexican music for the piano. With works by José Pablo Moncayo, Blas Galindo, and Manuel Ponce.
