5/7: Transatlantic Music
Since the European expansion into the Western Hemisphere, Latin American and European music have experimented in a cross-pollination. On this program, we’ll listen to Latin American composers that had successful careers in Europe and from European composers that migrated to Latin America to make a name for themselves.

5/14: Music from Uruguay
Uruguay is a small country with strong cultural and musical traditions. A Uruguayan himself, Fiesta’s host, Elbio Barilari, will present Uruguayan orchestral music by the iconic composer Lamarque Pons and by living composers Fernando Condon, Sergio Cervetti and José Serebrier.

5/21: Symphonic Music of Carlos Chávez
Symphonic works of the great master Carlos Chávez are shared in this program. Host Elbio Barilari will present some of his best-known works as well as some hidden treasures. Join us for music from one of the greatest composers of the 20th century.

5/28: Teresa Carreño: Composer and Pianist
Born in Venezuela in 1853, Teresa Carreño was one the first Latin American women with an international career as a pianist, composer and teacher. Fiesta explores the life and music of this piano virtuoso nicknamed the “Valkyrie of the Piano.”
