Music from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema is celebrated on the May 13th episode.

5/6        Retratos andaluces/Portraits of Andalucía Guitartists Pepe Romero and Turibio Santos are featured in works by Palomo and Granados.

5/13      Época de Oro del Cine Mexicano y compositor Silvestre Revueltas/Silvestre Revueltas and The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema The 30-year period beginning in 1933 saw an incredible wealth of films from Mexico. Silvestre Revueltas was one of the composers whose music left an indelible imprint on the sound of Mexican film.

5/20      Moscow on the Guadalquivir: “Russian” Spanish Music This week, we test the premise of the Father of Russian classical music, Mikhail Glinka: “A nation creates music – the composer only arranges it.” We’ll hear if some Russian composers have captured the spirit of Spain.

5/27      Music from Spanish Colonies Cuba, as well as the Philippines, had a rich musical tradition prior to the arrival of Spanish conquistadors. This week, we’ll hear dances from these countries, as well as from Spain.
