We'll hear from the great pianist Alicia de Larrocha in works by Frederico Mompou (Aug 2) and take a look back at her long life and hear some of her renowned recordings (Aug 23).

8/2       Profile: Frederico Mompou Works for piano, guitar, and voice by the enigmatic 20th-century Catalan composer Frederico Mompou, performed by Alicia de Larrocha, Julian Bream, Victoria de los Ángeles, and Judith Jáuregui.

8/9       México romántico Romantic works by two giants of classical music from 20th-century Mexico: Manuel María Ponce and Carlos Chávez. Featured are Ponce's Trio Romántico and Chávez' Sinfonia Romántica.

8/16      The Unknown Granados Lesser known orchestral and chamber works by the composer of Goyescas and 12 Spanish Dances, including forgotten orchestral and instrumental treasures from one of the great composer-pianists of the late 19th and early 20th century.

8/23      Profile: Alicia de Larrocha This week we remember Alicia de Larrocha through her renowned recordings, and through performances and testimonials from a memorial held in in New York City.

8/30      Works by Ortiz & Cererols with Jordi Savall Jordi Savall and La Capella Reial bring to life works from the 16th and 18th century Spain with a Neapolitan connection by two of that country’s most important composers. The featured work is Missa pro defunctis, a requiem written during the great Barcelona plague, by Catalan composer Joan Cererols. Works for viola da gamba by Diego Ortiz from Castilla-La Mancha round out the program.
