So the first musical I ever did was All You Really Need to Know You Learned in Kindergarten and that first day I walked in,  I’d never been in musical before.  I thought was going to be, you know, a little thing we perform for the parents.  Nope! Nope!  Not at all! I walked in and Mr. Tallman, everyone, there were tons of people, and he just gave us a note and everybody sang in, like, harmony, and I was just like, “WHOA! This is insane! This is what I want to do!  I want to sing!”   And ever since that moment of stepping on the stage the first time, all the older kids, all the younger kids, all the experienced kids, all the kids who were like me who really had no idea what they were doing?  Everyone was, like, CONNECTED. And just that sound?  I just knew that this is it. THIS IS IT! I have lived!  This is it. This is what I want to do!

Editor's note: Tenth grader Stephanie Buell attends Byron-Bergen Jr./Sr. High School in Bergen, New York.  She's performing in the world premiere of the musical "10 Again" on March 2-4, 2017.

Brenda Tremblay has served as weekday morning host on WXXI Classical since 2009.
