Bach/Sitkovetski: Goldberg Variations for string trio, BWV 988
The Society for Chamber Music in Rochester produced a concert to celebrate the many influences of Bach. Included was Dmitry Sitkovetsky's chamber arrangement of Bach's Goldberg Variations, a work he wrote to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Bach's birth. Sitkovetsky dedicated it to Canadian pianist Glenn Gould, whose 1955 recording of the variations cemented Gould's reputation as his generation's foremost interpreter of Bach and became an instant best seller. Sitkovetsky created a challenging piece with intricate interplay...which Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Concertmaster (and SCMR co-Artistic Director) Juliana Athayde, RPO Assistant Principal violist Marc Anderson, and RPO cellist Benjamin Krug were clearly ready for. Listen to the Goldberg Variations.
