Josef Rheinberger: Die Wasserfee (The Mermaid)
Sir Edward Elgar: The Dance
Recorded in concert in March and April at Downtown United Presbyterian Church in Rochester, NY, these two songs from "Turkish Love Songs and Other Romantic Rarities" mark the first of two appearances for Lee Wright and First Inversion on Performance Rochester. You may recognize Elgar's "The Dance." Elgar's wife wrote lyrics for a series of tunes Elgar composed while they were on holiday in the mountains; Elgar would later remove the words to create his Bavarian Dances Suite.

Says founder and Artistic Director Lee Wright, "Driven by my deep commitment to community and collaboration, First Inversion brings together both professional and avocational singers from the Eastman School of Music and the larger community with the goal of true personal and musical growth for all through a focus on fearless and selfless musical expression. The name 'First Inversion' is inspired by the second chord in the opening tenor aria from Handel's Messiah, Comfort Ye. This particular chord—E Major in first inversion—has always charmed me."
