Fri 4/12, 8:00a VOICES presents music by Josquin DesPrez from their Sing Out, My Tongue concert

Sing Out, My Tongue: Masterpieces of the Renaissance was the theme for VOICES first concert of its 12th season, performed at Asbury First United Methodist Church on September 23, 2018.

Composer Josquin des Prez (c. 1440-1521) towered over the musical world in the years around 1500.  He was highly successful in courts and cathedrals in France, Italy and the Netherlands, and lauded by his fellow composers.

In this concert, the audiences basked in the simple melodies and elaborate weaving of voices in Josquin's Missa Pange Lingua, intermingled with plainchant hymns, and three Ave Maria presentations by contemporaries Jean Mouton (1459-1522), Johannes Ockeghem (c. 1420-1497) and Ludwig Senfl (c. 1490-1543).
