As a special Good Friday celebration, Performance Rochester is proud to present Bach's St. John Passion, in its entirety, with Voices under the direction of WilliamWeinert. Founded by Weinert, Voices is a professional ensemble of some of western's New York's finest singers.
Bach's grand work was first performed on Good Friday in 1724, shortly after his 39th birthday. The narrative is from the Gospel of John, as told by the Evangelist, Jesus, Peter, Pilate, and various servants. This performance, with Eastman School of Music alumnus David Chin playing the harpsichord, took place on March 24, 2019 in Asbury First United Presbyterian Church. Ruth Phinney is your host.
