Each year WXXI Classical presents a series of films that are related to classical music in some way. Selected by our classical music hosts Julia Figueras, Brenda Tremblay and Mona Seghatoleslami, each film chosen exemplifies the power of music in a non-traditional narrative. Films are often preceded by subject-related live music in The Little Cafe or followed by live panel discussion following the film.

Join WXXI for Classical 91.5 Presents, a series that spotlights classical music connections in film.

Classical 91.5 Presents...West Side Story on Saturday September 2nd, 3pm at The Little Theatre.  Join us before the movie at The Little Theatre Cafe, for live music starting at 2pm with the Empire Film Music Ensemble and stick around afterwards to talk about the movie's groundbreaking choreography and dancing in a discussion hosted by WXXI Classical 91.5 Music Director Julia Figueras.

The discussion panelists will be: Natalie Rogers (School Director/ Asst. Rehearsal Director, Garth Fagan Dance), David Palmer (Artistic Director, Rochester City Ballet), and Jenni Werner (Literary Director & Resident Dramaturg, Geva Theatre).

It's one of the greatest movie-musicals of all time. Two youngsters from rival New York City gangs fall in love, but tensions between their respective friends build toward tragedy. The music is by Leonard Bernstein, the words by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents, and the choreography by Jerome Robbins, who directed the film with Robert Wise.
